What Is A Threaded Union?
ASME B16.11 Union is a threaded pipe fitting that is used to connect two pipes or two more fittings at each end. The Stainless Steel Threaded Union is the most common form of union with a male thread, female thread and a nut in the middle. The Threaded Union Dimensions differ according to the pipe system it connects with and the standards mandated. The different materials call for different strengths and mechanical properties of the union in various types such as the Alloy Steel Screwed Union and the ASTM A182 SS Threaded Unions. A Screwed Union has the advantage of dismantling as needed. Unlike most other pipe fitting connections, the Forged Threaded Union can be fitted without welding. There are different standards such as the BS3799 Screwed Forged Union and the Forged Threaded Union which have different physical and mechanical properties.
How Does A Threaded Union Work?
The most used is the ASME B16.11 Union and its variations like the Carbon Steel Threaded Union. Their strength is increased in the Threaded Forged Union by the forged production methods. Due to the strength, the Forged Threaded Union can be applied in smaller pipe diameters up to 4 inches but with high stress or pressure environments. They can withstand different pressure levels according to their dimensions and their material makes such as the Screwed Union 3000LB Threaded.
What Is A Union Fitting Used For?
The ASME B16.11 Union for instance can withstand pressures up to 3000lbs in connections. The threads in Forged Screwed Union make them better choice for application where maintenance demands dismantling of pipe fittings from time to time. Some high strength applications require special material unions such as the Duplex Steel Threaded Unions which are very much corrosion resistant and have a high tensile and yield strength. These are used in ordinary water lines for domestic purpose to much higher precision systems like in the petroleum industry piping.
